Summer 2:42 Groups

Acts 2:42

All believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. 

What are 2:42 groups?

2:42 groups are designed for 3-4 people of the same gender to meet regularly and intentionally throughout the summer. In this way, they function like mini-cores and can easily adjust to summer schedules. Just like a core, 2:42 groups are meant for everyone, and we believe will be helpful for growing in your faith and building relationships over the summer.

What to do in 2:42?

The structure of 2:42 groups is meant to reflect the same practices that we see from the thriving early community of Jesus’ followers in the Book of Acts 2:42.

Apostes’ Teaching

In your meetings devote yourselves to reading, dissecting, and applying the Scripture.

2 Tim 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

 

Scripture is useful in a way that streaming sites, social media, and even other books just are not. We recommend opening the Word of God in every 2:42 meeting!

You can find a Summer reading recommendation below, but feel free to read whatever would be helpful or applicable according to your group.

Fellowship

Fellowship is ultimately about sharing a common mission and since we share the mission of making & maturing disciples of Jesus, therefore you should use some time to talk about how the mission is going on a consistent basis. This means encourage one another, lead each other to the cross, confess sins, share good news, etc.

Breaking of Bread

As the early church did, welcome each other into your homes and lives. It’s a good idea to share a meal (or snack). There is something special about the intimacy of eating food together! Similarly, laugh and joke together and don’t feel pressured to spend the whole time rigidly talking about only “spiritual” things. This is all about sharing life together in a way that is rich, exciting, therapeutic, and hopeful. Ex. share highs and lows and ask deep questions about each other’s answers!

Prayer

Spend time praying, praising God, and giving thanks. This is a time to bring prayer requests before each other and before God.

Summer 2023

With this summer’s theme of “Repent and Believe the Good News”, we suggest reading the Book of Mark. An easy way to start is to read 2 chapters a week and discuss what stuck out to you, share insights, and ask any questions you might have.

Bonus points for reading in advance or finding helpful commentaries, but definitely watch this Bible Project video!
