The Horizon of a New Year

Core Christmas Party

Gosh, I can't believe that 2015 has come to an end and given way to 2016, each year just seems to go by a little faster. God has done so much for me this year and it might have been one of the years where I have grown and learned the most about myself and God's character. Learning can be tough and hard but I wouldn't take back any part of this year.

Wrapping up the Semester:

A few of our Richland students.
December was a whirlwind of events that it seemed to come and go before I could blink. We started off the month by throwing a Christmas party for the students at UTD, TWU Dallas, and Richland. This turned out so fun! The theme was “High School Christmas,” so each core came dressed up as a different High School clique and then could perform a Christmas song in the talent show competition (extra points to teams that could turn a High School Musical song into a Christmas song.) The Staff even put on a show, we came as the lunch ladies and served the students “lunch” (dinner) in lines before they sat down to mingle and watch the talent show. So for the Staff's part in the talent show, we sang as lunch ladies excited for the students to go home for break (altered version “I can hear the bell” from Hairspray). This was such a fun event getting to bond with the other Richland students as well as the staff. Richland performed together and won third place in the talent show competition. It was so cool to see our students come together and just have fun!
We also had a candlelight devotional service for our last Friday Night FOCUS of the semester. The service consisted of Christmas hymns and students reading the Christmas story and sharing about how it has affected their lives. A great sense of joy and peace washed over me as I watched the candles light up and the students all sing together. We can be a pretty diverse group but Christ unites us all. It is such a privilege to work with these students who are truly seeking Christ and trying to further his kingdom on their campuses. I'm excited for what God will continue to do this Spring semester!

Preparing for the Spring!

-Please be praying for our students as school gets started back up. We have Winter Camp coming up on January 15th-18th. Students from all of our Focus campuses (UTD, UNT, UTA, TWU, TWU-Dallas, NCTC, Collin Spring Creek, Collin Preston Ridge, and Richland) gather together at Sky Ranch for a long weekend. Most of the students take the last weekend out of their break (or first weekend of the semester for UTD) to connect with God and each other. Winter Camp is one of my favorite events of the year and God does amazing things in that small amount of time. This year Rikk Watts, a professor and bible scholar from Regent College (in Canada) is coming down to speak to our students during the weekend. Students get to learn from great ministers, worship, fellowship, and play together. Please be praying that our Richland students can all come. We were provided vans to transport our students from the school, which is a tremendous blessing, we are hoping to get a little financial help as well. I think Winter Camp will do wonderous to connect our students with each other and build community.
-Also, praise the Lord as we are close to reaching our fundraising goal for the “Keep Focus Going and Growing Initiative!” That will help us continue to support our growing ministries as we go into this new year.
Thank you all for your love and support this past semester and continued support this semester. I can't wait to see how God moves this Spring!
